1. Ambientlandsession

This is a recording of a concert given by reverse angle earlier this year in a concert session event called Ambientland. As the name implies the music heard in this session touches the ambient genre, however can’t be filed solely in this drawer. Different layers of sound and sometimes even noise mutations span through the 57:30 minutes, laying the foundation for various field recording snippets. Familar sounds can be heard in an alienated environment. The hole situation, unintentionaly, payes tribune to the great soundwizards of the german seventies.

Hier geht’s um Filmmusik. Nicht irgendeinen Film sondern um den Blaxploitation Klassiker schlechthin. Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song mausert sich weder durch seine Handlung noch durch herausragende schauspielerische Leistungen zum Top Film. Hier gilt eher das Prinzip: Minus mal Minus gibt Plus. Dazu noch eine übertriebene Portion Blackness, samt Soundtrack. Der besteht aus einer Collage einzelner Filmfetzen flankiert von Kompositionen des omnipräsenten Melvin van Peebles. Neben der Filmmusik hat der Kerl auch das Drehbuch geschrieben und, teils auch mangels finanzieller Mittel, gleich die Hauptrolle übernommen. Und wer hat’s gesampled? Die Schweizer. Der Madlib.
Musikalisch deckt der Soundtrack das, zumindest damals (1971) verfügbare, Spektrum an afroamerikanisch geprägter Musik ab. Gospel (grandiose Kirchenszenen), Funk (sagenhafte Action Szenen), Soul (Sex) und sogar auch ein bisschen Rhythm & Blues (pseudo-kontemplative Szenen) ab. Größtenteils, das muss man sagen, fängt die Musik die Stimmung im Film ganz gut ein, wobei die Musik auch ganz gut ohne Motion Pictures funktioniert. Obwohl teils wahnsinnig catchy, ist der Soundtrack nichts für schwache Nerven. Wer jedoch Nachhilfe in Sachen Blackness braucht und noch nach ein paar saloppen Phrasen fürs nächste Businessdiner sucht, der ist hier genau richtig.
